I Support Barack Obama

I took Ethan on a little shopping trip Saturday, and we ended up at Springfield’s hippy store, Penny Lane. They have the best selection of posters anywhere around here (in a different room than the one pictured above), and bought a couple for my office and one for Ethan’s room (Buzz Lightyear).

On the way out, we stopped by their blacklight room. Ethan was mesmerized by their strobe light. Poor little guy, probably thought he was at the gates of hell. We had a good time though. He said “it smells good in here!”

No way, I can’t believe that store is still there. Same place? I remember being there not long after Jerry Garcia died. The feeling of grief was thick in the air, or at least something was.

Uh, Ethan stay away from the items in the glass case. They are just for “tobacco” use only.

Not to mention they have a sweet selection of decals/stickers.. if you can get past the collection of pissing Calvins...

Sadly enough, I recognized this locale before I even saw the caption. D’oh.

And btw - WHO IS THIS MISTA BETTS!?!? Surely not my former junior high principal!?

(Hiya Dave!)

Junior High? Come on, son. I was a high school principal, officiatin’ in the pros of the school system, just like I was a pro NFL player. Come on son.

When I was a teacher I had this former junior high and high school principal who is being referred to as my boss. Best principal I ever worked under. From the school board’s perspective on decision making and getting things done there was a right way, a wrong way, and a Mista Betts way. Usually the board chose the “wrong” way over the “right” way; they were afraid of lawsuits if they chose the Mista Betts way. His way would get the job accomplished, although the methods he employed maybe sometimes weren’t quite professional or ethical!!

I always enjoyed the Mista Betts way myself. I thought it was the most efficient. But yeah...maybe inviting of lawsuits.

I personally liked the Mr. Hickman way.

“Gladish!! Detention!”

Yeah, I wasn’t quite as fond of that way. Especially that one time he told me I “must be retarded” and that I “belonged with the other retarded kids down the hall.” No joke.

Last time I was in Springfield, I went to a bar with a friend, and Mrs. Deloney periodically collected our empty beer bottles.

It was weird.

Did she work there or was she just collecting recyclables in a shopping cart?
