George Clooney is in Springfield
Ive heard from at least two independent sources that George Clooney is in town already for Baracks announcement tomorrow. The word on the street is that he is going to have dinner tonight at Sebastians downtown. From the reaction that this news drew from my female coworkers, Clooney would make a much more impressive candidate than Obama.
In case you dont know what the big deal is, Barack Obama is going to be in Springfield this Saturday making an announcement that he will be running for President. Its a big event for our small town, and the turnout is expected to be out of control.
Courtney and I had planned on taking both kids, but we changed our minds and instead will be taking no kids. Were dropping them off nice and early and will get downtown early enough to be able to see at least the top third of Baracks head. I plan on having as many media-recording devices strapped to my person as is allowed by the law.
Is anyone else planning on going? I think the wind chill is expected to be close to 0, but Im hoping there will be enough people standing around that makes it kind of like that scene in March of the Penguins where the warmth of the group makes it bearable for anyone not on the edge of the group. But Im not rotating to the outside. ![]()

I came home this weekend JUST to go to the announcement tomorrow. I cant wait!
I thought Clooney was staying away from Obama because he thinks too much Hollywood around a candidate is a bad thing. Hm. Oh well...if I see George Clooney in person Im going to need to be revived, so bring your CPR skills along with your media devices....just in case.

UPDATE
I have also heard that Chris Matthews is in town, and Oprah will be coming tomorrow. Neither of these claims are 100%, but neither is the Clooney rumor. Ill provide more updates here as I have them.

Not only Clooney, but Matt Damon

I think its funny that this seems to be way more exciting than when President Bush was here for the opening of the Abraham Lincoln Library/Museum thingy.
I think Sally has dibs on Matt Damon. Ill take Clooney.

I have recently heard that Clooney is not, in fact, in Springfield. Hes out east (or something) shooting a movie.

O.K., I must be living under a rock. Who is the dude in Photo 2 with the dead animal on his shoulders? Also, Lynn and I were at four separate parties last night and heard at each about the celebs (George and Matt) being in Springfield. We cant find anything to do in Springfield on a Friday night so why would Hollywood come here? Too much buzz to really be true we all agreed. I did ask if the Gov. was coming. Suddenly, the room got silent and you could hear crickets chirping.

At some point in the opening of the Obama announcement today (I think Durbin was speaking), the Governor was mentioned. That was the only point where the crowd bood! It was funny.
One of Courtneys online friends said that the news in their area (Chicago suburbs) said that the rumor of Clooney being in Springfield was false. Apparantly he is filming a movie out East. I havent heard proof one way or the other, but I would bet its true that he is NOT in town.

I dont like Obamas chances against the Hillary machine. I could see Obama as the Veep candidate now, and if they won, being strong in 2016.
